You all have known this for a month, really. I know some of you held out hopes that we’d be back – that the extended absence was part of a re-org or just us grabbing some down time, but nah. It was never that. Sorry to have not made it official until today, but we all needed time to process this ourselves.
Anyway, here’s the final episode:
I think we did a pretty good job of covering what we could cover and thanking basically everyone who deserves our endless gratitude. From Greg Lalas (who changed my life 15 years ago and to whom I owe more than I could ever possibly repay) to Simon Borg (the Extratime GOAT) to Tommy Scoops, and to all the hosts in between (many of whom have become my best friends in the world)… I just don’t really have the words. I wish I did. They should’ve sent a poet.
Anyway, as we mentioned on the show, Wiebe, Calen, Anders and I are still all full-time with MLS. You’ll be seeing plenty of Andrew and Calen on Season Pass, and I’ll be writing a bit more for MLSsoccer.com, and there are other things in the hopper. Anders, meanwhile, goes from having eight different jobs here to seven.
So it’s a bummer of a day, and it’s sad to see the end of a show that we all loved doing so much. And I can not stress enough how much we LOVED doing this show. But even without ETR, we’re not done covering this league – not by a long shot – and I promise that you won’t have to wait long for a reunion show to hit the air on Soccerwise.
Thanks for tuning in all these years. See you next time.
Doyle, thank you so much for all the years of your time in contributing to extra time. Listening to you each week inspired me to an insane degree to better understand the game of soccer, and I so doing you have deepened my love and appreciation for the game to a level I would never have imagined possible. I truly appreciate the work you do, and hope to stay close to whatever is next for you.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
This show was foundational for me in getting into American soccer, between MLS, USMNT and the lower leagues. It's a bummer that it's going away, but I can't thank you all enough for getting me invested in the game for the last decade-plus. Anytime I have interacted with you in the past has been a delight too. Glad to hear that you will still be doing your thing with MLS at the very least!
