What other players do you think can go this Jack Mcglynn route, hg to u22 player elsewhere? It's makes so much sense, because like you said they're already proven in the league. It removes a lot of a mystery that comes with these transfers. I could see Quinn Sullivan (I think this would be his highest value, although I think he is firmly in Philly's plans) and maybe a Cremaschi (would increase gam for Miami.) Are there anymore?

Cremaschi is a very good shout. Reed Baker-Whiting is another one, if he doesn't break through this year with Seattle. A year from now we could be having this conversation about Nimfasha Berchimas if he doesn't get much PT this year in Charlotte (which I'm not betting on).

Noel Buck? I could see it happening if he doesn't get regular time this year for the Revs. Same with San Jose's Cruz Medina (tho that'd probably be a 2027 or beyond thing).

Noel Buck is interesting one. I'd have to imagine it'd be mostly guys who'd only get a chance in the 2nd tier European leagues. Berchimas might project to high. The other one I thought of was Gutierrez if Chicago goes dp 10.

The more I think about it, the more natural of a fit this is. Match making here the only obvious one above I see is Reed Baker-Whiting to Cincy. Buck and Cremaschu should be able to get minutes most places, but I'm not sure where they'd walk in and start.

I want the Quakes to offer the farm for Buck. I think he'd be a lock starter there under Bruce.

This was a helpful breakdown, especially since most media attention right now seems to be on how the Acosta/Evander musical chairs situation plays out. While that's another interesting test-case to pay attention to, it's cool to see how these rules may have impacts currently flying under people's radar.

Regarding Dynamo willingness to sell McGlynn. I think the plan will be to help him to Europe, and earn some money for the Dynamo and PHU, and do it as soon as possible. McGlynn was not going to play under B. Carnell. Summer is a better window to sell into Europe. As you say the Houston system will suit him. It takes immediate pressure off of Raines, and allows the Dynamo to focus on recruiting the DP#10 they need in this window.

I would not be surprised if McGlynn, the Union and the Dynamo have already agreed on a reasonable sale price. Now it is up to McGlynn to perform and his agent to sell him to a good spot in Europe -- not the down table 2nd division small teams that were interested this winter.

I'm guessing the Dynamo don't view McGlynn as a long-term solution for the HH role. But putting him in the shop window for PHU, getting some production from him, then helping him get into Europe will allow them to shop for the HH replacement in the better Summer window.

Confused by how the cash sales work with the other MLS budget rules. E.g. Houston pays $2 million in cash for a player. But according to MLS rules the $2mm paid is still amortized in addition to his roster charge. That would seem to price most deals out of the internal MLS market. Am I missing something?

Can amortize that $2m over the next 3 years on McGlynn's current deal (230k/yr) and he'd be just about the cost of a max slot – i.e., wouldn't have to use TAM or GAM to pay him down. Though you could still do some arbitrage to keep his budget charge just over the max the whole time, which would then let you use TAM to pay his cap hit down to $200k if you need the space.

Or they could just slot him into a U22 spot, which means the transfer fee doesn't hit the books in any way.

For Joveljic, he was purchased with the intent to make him a DP, which I'm sure his salary will reflect. So the fee doesn't really come into play.

Pat Onstad teased a trade with Philly at the American Soccer Insights Summit during his talk today! :)

Side note: Pat is a really compelling speaker. How is he not on more podcasts or publicly speaking! Really engaging and upfront about behind the scenes of club operations.

Disagree that McGlynn was bad last year, but it’s easy to get painted with that broad brush when you play for a tired and bad side. The vets that were around him all had either substandard or terrible seasons.

Once the Union transfered Brujo, he became the only option to help the Union build their attack and he had a ton of responsibility within the side to help them generate chances.
